Small Business Ideas

01 Feb
Although lots of people have great small business ideas, the practical application of such ideas is the one that matters. Even the stage when you make up your mind about what to do to be in control of your life, job and career can prove extremely difficult sometimes. You should begin by some overall issues that are necessary for the implementation of any small business ideas you may have.

Let’s say you want to sell services or products, most expert small business ideas advise that only one item be supported as the focused efforts increase the level of competence and the chances for success. Moreover, when you dedicate your efforts to something you know well, results will appear sooner than if you devoted time to a totally new element. Do not ignore a certain hidden psychology in sales according to which your belief in the great features of the product is passed on to the customers, and this should set the line of conduct to only promote what you believe in.

Try to keep in mind the do’s and don’ts common to most small business ideas. For instance, the cash-flow projection for twelve months in advance is necessary for any business that needs to grow. Then, spending a lot of money to start in a grand way could prove a fatal mistake when you lack a reputation and the credentials that help earn money. Stay low and take cautious steps without bringing about the risk of debt, mortgage or bankruptcy.

If you don’t know what small business ideas to implement, perhaps it’s good to investigate the opportunities and see what suits your case best. There are people who resign before they have their own business ready to make money. The problem is that sometimes things may not work the way you expect them to and competition with the former employer have severe consequences.

Familiarity with the domain you take your small business ideas from is essential for smart investments. Such knowledge comes with thorough personal documentation, from studies or from lots of working years in the field. Presently, there are even courses that assist people with their marketing difficulties, but such consultancy should be prior to the implementation of the small business ideas as such.

First what is your market – this can not be the people who drive by on I-35. It has to be which people are the ones driving by and why would they want to stop.
Second- What is the need you are filling. Is it really a need? Is there any way to test it before spending $$'s that could be lost? Is anyone else doing it in a similar type of location (Another small town) Interview that person or better yet several people in other small towns doing something like this or similar.
Third. What are your resources – to sustain you. Do you have an income while you are getting started. I started a business once and I had little cash to start but I was able to work it part time for 18 months while I worked full time. I was able to reinvest any earnings back into my business.
The internet cafe is an interesting idea but the cafe or the food I think is what will draw people in.
Take a road trip and see what other people are doing and tell people straight up what you want to do and ask lots of questions. People love to help others.
I am excited for you and a little jealous – Owning my business was the funnest thing I have have ever done. If you have other questions you can email me. Good Luck!

The better long term business option is the lawn service. The house never moves, and the customer doesn't have to be home for you to perform the service (you can bill or collect later). Grass grows no matter what, especially as you approach and get into the summer. Community deed restrictions require that the homeowner keep their lot cut.
The startup cost to begin a lawn service is 1 lawnmower and trimmer. Continuing costs is fuel.
Costs for a car wash detailing service depends. Hose, cleaning supplies, sponges, rags, a buffer, wax.
If you can, start trying to do both. Which ever you like or the one that takes off, you continue. There are pros and cons to both.

This is great advice to start helping people for free to build up some testimonials before you go full steam. Some testimonials better than launching from zip with no evidence of results.

    Online or offline.

For online you could start a BLOG and talk about art. Make videos of yourself teaching art and sell them. Help others by offering tips, offer suggestions, hold contests, etc.

Offline you could hook up with artists and local small businesses. Make a deal with small businesses to hang the art in their place in exchange for a small % if a painting sells and you also take a cut from the artist for selling one of theor paintings.

There are lots of ideas. Good luck with whatever you choose.

The best business will depend on what you want, how you define to be interesting. A person may consider a pet sitting business to be the most exciting work in the world, while another person would rather watch TV than take care of dogs.

The key is to determine what your interests are, what you want to do, what is suitable for your lifestyle and your overall goals, and what can fit with your resources.

Dan Ramsey in his book "101 Best Home Businesses" has a chapter on how to find YOUR best home business. He suggests these 10 steps:

    1. List 5 things you do best
    2. List how others would benefit from what you do best
    3. Find out how to give people what they want
    4. Learn the value of your services to others
    5. Find out who else offers similar services
    6. Learn from the successes of others
    7. Learn from the failures of others
    8. Plan your own success
    9. Make low cost mistakes
    10. Enjoy what you do and how you do it

He then made suggestions on the best home businesses according to type. Here are a few of them:

Best Businesses Using Craft or Physical Skills
    - antique restoration
    - auto detail service
    - carpet cleaning business
    - errand/delivery service
    - housecleaning business

    Best Service Businesses
    - bed and breakfast operator
    - caregiver
    - catering service
    - senior day care center
    - tutoring service

    Best Professional Businesses
    - desktop publisher
    - magazine writer
    - import/export service
    - income tax preparation service
    - event planner

There are so many small businesses out there that he can look into. You'll get a lot of different ideas here on yahoo to look into. When I was looking for a small business, someone suggested this blog from yahoo on small businesses that you can run out of your home. Your Uncle would have the same income opportunity as a traditional business, but without all the over head expenses. Most home based businesses are businesses within a business, just like if you were to buy into McDonalds, but they cost a fraction of the amount as going into business with McDonald's. Here's a blog that has over half a dozen different industries to take a look at. I'm sure it will give you a lot of ideas to give to your Uncle as it gave me.
    Good Luck to you!

Why don't you just make a CD or a demo with a few songs, promote it, and maybe you will get signed to a major record label. You can also start your own label, hire promoters, and become a success!

There are none that you can do without having any specific knowledge. There are people that make money being affiliates, some will produce software, create websites or/and graphics.
From zero you will ideally set up a blog and start blogging.
Or even look at other people's blogs, see the banners on them they are ads from google or similar networks, when people click on them you get a few pennies or a few dollars.

One excellent and timely environmentally friendly small business idea would be to resell or recycle the contents of all the houses currently in foreclosure. These are often left full of furniture and household belongings. One of the few small businesses that are booming right now is cleaning all of these houses out. Unfortunately, the contents are generally taken directly to the dump. Any business that either arranged to take the contents of the houses or did the clean out business themselves would have a large supply of free furniture and other household goods– often in excellent condition. They should be successful even selling these things for a small fraction of their original value since their only costs would be hauling and storage.

It may seem sad to make a business off the loss of people's houses, but it is even sadder to have all of these perfectly good products going into landfills.
