Insurance is individaul, so what is cheap for me, may not be cheap for you. it is based on driving record, age, vehicle among other factors.

Just get an online insurance quote to see how much insurance in LA would be. Go to http://www.auto-insurance-knowledge.com/24-hour-insurance-quote-auto.html this will compare all companies in LA and give you the lowest prices. You may have to enter a LA zip code, so just look one up in google.

    Hope that helps

You're not going to like my answer. Most auto insurance policies do not cover the use of a car for business purposes unless you declare the business use to the insurance company so it can be used to properly rate your premiums.

Jobs like courier, pizza delivery, small package delivery, etc that is done with a privately owned vehicle (not company owned) must be declared to the insurance carrier, because you represent a greater risk due to the added exposure to traffic. Sorry, but you may not be covered. Please check the "Declarations" page of the policy.

Well, California law doesn't apply to the other states – each state makes it's OWN laws regarding insurance.

I've checked with the CA insurance department website, and don't see ANYTHING like this. I'd be shocked if it was true – I think you're either misunderstanding something. It's possible that the rate for, say, towing, or medical payments to people in your car, is a flat rate, regardless of territory. But it's a flat out fact that some areas have more thefts, and others more accidents.

I seriously doubt that ALL rates are going to be the same in CA, regardless of where you live.

I don't know the fine amount, but he will more than likely face what they call an "SR-22" filing, where he will be required to show proof of insurance to the state for at least a year or two. Along with this lovely SR-22, he will be facing a license suspension, and that fine is hefty on its own. Although there is underlying insurance, that is probably from the lender's end, and is technically only protecting the lender if his car is damaged, and is not affording any liability coverage-and this is what the state requires. His best bet is to get insurance ASAP to make sure he is adequately covered, and try to plead not guilty to the ticket, and head to court to fight it. He made a big mistake that he will not only pay for in fines, but also deal with a license suspension, and high insurance for the next 5 years at least.

I would suggest the auto club (AAA).
However, you are too young to be on your own policy. An insurance policy involves an application which is a legal binding document that you can not enter into unless you are 18. You will have to be added on to your parents policy and most likely the insurance company will not provide you a quote for the additional cost; your parents will have to call
You do qualify for a good student discount as long as you maintain a 3.0 GPA and stay in school full time. Also, let your parents know that insurance is less costly for females than for males. Good Luck! :)

Yes, most of them are Nationwide. They are set up with agents from all over the place and when you get quoted they'll find you a local agent next to you based on your zip code, these do it with all major insurers
