Cheap and 18 is an oxymoron. Add CA to the mix and it gets worse. Then factor in an almost new car…

If you live at home, get added to your parents insurance. If you don't, talk to an independent agent to see if you can do any better.

I would suggest the auto club (AAA).
However, you are too young to be on your own policy. An insurance policy involves an application which is a legal binding document that you can not enter into unless you are 18. You will have to be added on to your parents policy and most likely the insurance company will not provide you a quote for the additional cost; your parents will have to call
You do qualify for a good student discount as long as you maintain a 3.0 GPA and stay in school full time. Also, let your parents know that insurance is less costly for females than for males. Good Luck! :)

If this is your dad's car shouldn't he have insurance on it already? If he does you can be put on his plan cheaper than you can get on your own. The insurance will not be cheap for you until you are 25.

In my opinion, Mercury is cheapest and they always come through when I've needed them.
    I hope this helps…

What I most often recommend is an online comparison quote at
    http://gsx1.com/InsuranceComparison.html
since they have lots of insurers and can give several prices on car insurance polices.
But to find a cheap price you should get several quotes, do some legwork till something better will come along.

You will be added to your parents' policy as a driver and insurance for young people is not cheap. Some companies give discounts for drivers ed. If your parents insurance claims records are clear they should not increase too much. It is impossible to say without complete current policy details. Unfortunately, you are in one of the highest risk groups. Your rates will go down when you are 25. On the bright side, a Scion is a good choice since it is not a sports car.
